We have a new face in the forest! Mongoose lemurs Mateo and Zoe were recently moved into one of our forest habitats. Mateo has free ranged before, but Zoe is brand new to the habitat! Zoe’s inquisitive nature is extremely beneficial as she is eager to explore this new space. While Mateo has free ranged before, he’s not the most adventurous soul so Zoe’s enthusiasm in exploring her new home is also helping Mateo come out of his shell!
The pair currently only have forest access during the day, when staff can keep an eye on them and make sure they are staying safe as they adapt to their surroundings. Soon they will graduate to 24/7 access. In the meantime, they are also learning to share their new home with a group of five ring-tailed lemurs and a group of four red ruffed lemurs.
